Wings Comics was first published by Fiction House in 1940. It was descended from the company's Wings magazine published in the 1920s. Both these titles were targeting flight enthusiasts, with articles about the history of flight and aerobatics, such as wing-walking.
With the advent of World War II the emphasis changed somewhat and patriotic war stories began to appear. These stories were in a very similar to vein as those of Captain Midnight and Blackhawk.
Later, after the end of the war, the title concentrated more on real life heroes of aviation and returned to its more historical content. There were also such articles as model building plans. For such a niche market the Wings title had a long run of almost fifteen years before it eventually folded.
