Spy and Counterspy was first published in August 1949, by the American Comics Group. With issue #3 dated December 1949, the title was renamed Spy-Hunters. The series continued until the final issue #24, which was published in June 1953.
As both the titles suggest the subject matter was espionage. The series reflects the heightening of tensions between the West and the Soviet Union during this time.
The main character in the run was Jonathan Kent an expert spy, who is helping to stem the tide of communism. The anti-communist stories were set throughout the globe, in what were at the time considered exotic places like: Prague, Berlin, Greece and Korea.
Also included in each issue was a real-life story including spies such as Mata Hari.
