The Hawk 'Fighting Marshall of the Wild West' was first published by Ziff-Davis in the Winter of 1951.
The company published two more issues and then as part of their withdrawal from much of the comic book market Ziff-Dsvis sold the majority of their titles to St. John publishing for an amount quoted as $50,000.
St. John Publications continued The Hawk series with issue #4 published in October 1953, the title would continue until the last issue #12, published in May 1955.
The Hawk was a standard and unremarkable roving cowboy figure, righting wrongs in his travels.
