Adventures Into the Unknown was first published by B&I Publishing (later renamed American Comics Group) in 1948. It ran for nearly 20 years until its 174th and final issue in August 1967.
Although it was not the first horror comic (a one-off Eerie Comics in January 1947 holds that title) Adventures Into the Unknown does have the distinction as being the first regularly produced horror comic.
Maybe, it was a bit tamer in its content than subsequent comics, but Adventures Into the Unknown was a big hit with the public. It also emerged unscathed from the general criticism of comic books during the early 1950's, including the Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency hearings in 1954 and the industry's own self-regulatory Comics Code.
