Flash Lightning, made his first appearance in Sure-Fire Comics issue #1 , published by Ace Comics, in June, 1940. His name was soon changed to Lash Lightning to avoid confusion with Flash a superhero from the DC Comics' stable.

Flash Lightning's alter-ego is Robert Morgan. It is whilst exploring an ancient Egyptian pyramid that Morgan meets a mystic called 'The Old Man of the Pyramids'. He grants Morgan superpowers on the one condition that he uses them for good and to fight evil.

These powers include super strength and speed, the ability to fly and to create 'lightning heat'. Flash can recharge his powers using electricity.

Later, in the series Lash as he is now known is joined in his mission by a friend named Isobel Blake. Lightning Girl, as she calls herself, gains powers identical to Lash when by accident he charges her with electricity.
